About GSA

The Graduate Student Association (G.S.A.) is the governing body of the graduate student population at The Catholic University of America. Our mission is three-fold:

  1. Serve as a liaison between the graduate community and the administration;
  2. Provide one social activity each semester, open to all graduate students;
  3. Provide funding to departments and organizations sponsoring events open to the whole graduate community.
The Graduate Student Association is the official voice of graduate students. It is concerned with all aspects of graduate student life and sponsors many activities that reflect the diversity of its members and help to bring the graduate community together.

 All graduate students are members of the association, which is governed by a Senate that follows the GSA constitution. The Senate is composed of approximately 45 representatives from each school or department which has graduate students. The number of representatives from each school is based on its graduate population.

 The Executive Committee consists of the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, two academic senators, and the chairpersons of all GSA committees. Elections to the Executive Committee (excepts committee chairpersons) are held in the spring.  Appointments to various other positions are made throughout the year.

 Meetings of the Senate are open to any graduate student. Standing Committees are: Budget, Executive, Rules and Elections, Social and Orientation. As a means of complementing the participation of the Senate on the standing and ad hoc committees, the association invites participation of all interested graduate students in its committees and functions.

 A portion of the graduate student activities fee is rebated to each department or school for their activities. To qualify for rebates, schools and departments must maintain active representation in the Senate. Additional funding for a school or department or for any club or group programming for graduate students, is available through the GSA budget process.

  The GSA office is regularly staffed by members of the Executive Committee. The office has hours as posted outside of its door.
